Request top-ups

Updated Sep 1, 2026·3 min read

A top-up is extra requests on top of what your plan allows for the month. It is what to reach for when a month turns busier than you planned, instead of moving to a bigger plan for a spike that will not happen again.

Buying and reading them is owner-only, like the rest of Billing.

You will find them under Billing, on the Request top-ups tab. The Top up link on the Requests card above your simulations list opens the same dialog.

You do not need a paid plan. A one-time top-up needs no subscription behind it, so any organization can buy one, free plans included.

Two kinds

  • One-time: pay once, and the requests last 90 days from the day you buy them.
  • Recurring: the same amount comes back every month with your subscription, so the balance refills each billing period instead of running down to nothing. This one needs a subscription to attach to.

Buy one

Choose Add requests.

Pick a kind and a size, tick the box, pay.

Requests come in units of 100,000. Set the quantity and the total updates as you go.

Tick the box to confirm you have read what a plan change does, then Confirm and pay.

A one-time top-up goes through checkout, and the requests arrive once the payment clears. A recurring one joins the subscription you already have and shows up on your next invoice.

What you have

The tab lists everything you have bought, active ones first.

Size, kind, status, what you paid, and when it runs out.
  • Active: counting toward what you can serve.
  • Expired: a one-time top-up past its 90 days.
  • Forfeited: lost to a plan change.
  • Cancelled: stopped before it ran out.

The line above the table adds up how many are active and what the recurring ones come to each month.

What gets used first

Requests come out of your plan's monthly allowance first. Top-ups start draining only once that is gone, soonest to expire first, so nothing sits unused while something newer is spent.

See Usage and limits.

What a plan change does

Top-ups are not refundable, and moving to a different plan forfeits every active one. Switching between monthly and yearly billing on the same plan keeps them.

You get told before it happens. The app names how many top-ups you would lose, how many requests that is, and what you paid for them, then asks you to confirm.
