Request a self-hosted trial
A trial lets you run a self-hosted backend of one type, such as payments, before you buy it. It is free, and a person reads every request before it opens.
Only owners and admins can ask for one.
Ask for it
Open Backend store and switch it to Self-hosted. Find the type you want to try and use Ask for the 14-day trial on it. What a trial includes is listed just above that button.
- What do you want to evaluate? Optional, and it helps us decide. Say what you are testing, and why a hosted backend does not fit.
- Can the image reach mockzilla.org? This decides how the trial's images get their license.
- Yes, it can: the image fetches its license from one address of ours. Whatever you buy later reaches the same image, with no rebuild.
- No, it runs in a closed network: the image carries its license. A new one means a new file or a new image.
Your answer carries over to every backend you make under the trial, and stays with it once you buy. You can change it later in the backend's Settings, and the change takes effect at its next build.

Then choose Ask for the trial. The Backend store now shows your request as received, and an email confirms we have it.
One trial per company
Each company gets one trial of each type. We go by the email address of the person asking:
- A work address counts for its whole company, so a second organization at the same company does not get a second trial.
- A personal address, such as a Gmail one, counts for that mailbox alone.
If your address has already had the trial of a type, the Backend store says so instead of offering it. You can still buy it.
Approved
The email tells you the trial is open. It runs 14 days from approval and covers every provider the type ships, unless we agreed on fewer with you.
Approving makes no backend by itself. The Backend store now shows the days left and New backend, which makes your first one.

Turned down
The email tells you why. The Backend store offers the trial again, and you can ask again.
When it ends
At its end date the trial's license runs out, and its images answer every request with an error.
Buy before then and your backends take the paid license. An image that fetches its license picks it up within the hour. One that carries its license needs the new license file mounted, or a new build.

If you do not buy, your organization's owners get one email the day after the trial ends, and its builds are deleted some days later. The Backend store says when.
